When I was young – in an attempt to refine my more tomboyish nature – my grandmother used to host elaborate tea parties during my weekend visits to her house. These tea parties included fine china, pearls, silk gloves and a beautiful floral tea pot filled with Coca Cola.
She never quite succeeded in turning me into a proper young lady, and honestly, I didn’t mind. I grew up, married, and gave birth to two incredible baby boys who filled my heart in their own wild, messy, joyful way—through nerf gun battles, baseball games, reptile adventures, and living room WWE smackdowns. It felt only natural that a not-so-girly girl like me would raise sons.
Then came the biggest surprise of my life: my third child, a daughter.
Now, I know it doesn’t work this way, but I often imagine my grandmother whispering to God, “Give her one just like her—but with extra sass.” She always did have a flair for the dramatic.
So, when my daughter turned two, it felt only right to throw a “Tea for Two” themed birthday party—
an homage to those treasured weekends with my grandmother. I channeled the memory of her floral teapot into the design of the party invitation, which is now available in my Etsy shop (linked here!)
Drawing inspiration from the floral tea pot, my aunt created the most amazingly beautiful balloon display. Links to the balloons in the arch can be found here! Links to the number 2 balloon stand can be found here. Not to leave out the gorgeous hanging flowers which can be found on Amazon here.
No par-tea is complete without matching paper goods. I found the daintiest paper plates with matching tea cups and saucers here on Amazon! My grandmother would scold me silly if I did not include the “real” porcelain tea pot, cups, and saucers which I found here.
A must for all outdoor tea party goers are boas, pearls, and straw hats all found at the links here. The boys are not to be forgotten! The boys wore a black top hat, perfect for the occasion! The birthday girl and all of her tea party guests looked glamorous.
The cake was a simple yet elegant two-tier design with a smooth white icing and soft pink lettering – crafted with love by a dear family friend who bakes all of my kids’ cakes because they are so delicious. It’s a sweet tradition we wouldn’t have any other way. A “Tea for Two” cake topper sat perfectly in the center, adding the perfect whimsical touch to this timeless birthday theme.
We kept the food easy and kid-approved by catering Chick-fil-a, while adding petit fours for a touch of elegance in keeping with the tea party theme.
This party was more than just a celebration of turning two- it was a full-circle moment filled with nostalgia and glam.
Celebrating my daughter’s second birthday this way felt like honoring both the past and the present- bringing a little bit of my grandmother’s spirit into a new generation. Whether you’re planning your own “Tea for Two” celebration or simply looking for a sweet, timeless theme, I hope this inspires a party full of love, laughter, and a touch of charm.
